Instructions for Dos to Windows Conversion:

Step 1:  The first step would be in the old CHAPS program (CHAPS III).  under Main Menu, Select: Cow/Calf Analysis>Update Calves>Delete All Blank Calves From File.  Type "Continue".

Step 2:  Under Main Menu, Select: Yearling Program>Update Yearlings>Transfer Calf Data to Yearling File.  Enter First Birth Date as 01/01/01, enter Last Birth Date as 12/31/99.  Choose "A" for All.  Choose "Save".

After taking these two steps save the working files, c, d, h, i, j, k, l, p, r, and yfiles onto a floppy disk, this disk will be used to convert your files. You will notice that the dates of the cfile and yfile are the dates that you completed the two previous steps. Upon completion of these steps you are ready to convert your data into the CHAPS 2000 program.

Access the CHAPS 2000 program, from the Main Menu choose Import>Dos to Windows Conversion.  Select your Source Path (usually a: \), select Destination Path (usually C:\Program Files\CHAPS\), enter your specific Herd ID, place a check mark in the box titled "Start with empty database", click on the "Convert" button. The conversion of data will go through four steps: Replacements, Calves, Yearlings and Culls. When the conversion process is complete "Close" out the window. Choose the Utilities option, select Directories, then Change Directories, find your specific Herd Folder, double click on that folder and choose "OK", then select the Setup option, Herd, double click on the Herd Default window, select your herd, click "OK", then cancel out of that window. All calves, cows, sires should appear in the gold folder in the upper left hand corner of the CHAPS 2000 screen.
